The Canary Islands maritime cluster, within the framework of the INTERREG-MAC 2014-2020 projects: SMART BLUE and NAUTICON also in comparing with the marketing action of the brand Canary Islands Suppliers for the island council a conference called “Opportunities for professional development in the blue economy, in the subsector of marine repair and nautical”, framed in the Gran Canaria blue economy forum.

This day was happened at Thursday the 9th of May at the conference centre of INFECAR. The Maritime Cluster of the Canary Islands reported several times, that the maritime sector makes 7% of employment at the Canary Islands and a range of job profiles, which most young people don’t know. In order to defuse this situation and show the students the job opportunities, have the Cluster and the Island council organised this conference to concentrate about the opportunities at the subsector Marine and nautical repairs. This event was opened by Raul Garcia Brink, Minister of Economic Development, Energy and Research and Development, who reported about the various promotional activities of the subsectors.

The day included the participation of numerous companies associated with the industry such as port authority de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Grupo Rodritol, ACOSTASUB, Grupo Stier, IFP Maritimo Pesquero de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, also the companies ZAMAKONA YARDS, ASTICAN, TALLERES SANPER, FEROHER, GROSA, CONTRATAS METALÚRGICAS, SACSA, RODRITOL, REPROSUB, CANARY ROPE, CARENADOS CANARIOS, SGS.

The event was a great success, because it was visited by more than 550 people, mainly by students and teacher of the training centres: IFP Maritime Fishing Las Palmas, Sª Antonio Claret, IES Tony Gallardo, IES Santa María de Guía, CIFP Cruz de Piedra, IES Arucas Domingo Rivero, IES Ana Luisa Benítez, IES Professor Antonio Cabrera Pérez und Femepa
