The Maritime Cluster of the Canary Islands is organising an informal between the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo and female workers in the production sector of the Navy for the Presidency of the Canary Islands Government in relation to the planned actions of INTERREG- MAC 2014-2020: SMART BLUE and INTERPORT projects.

The meeting took place in Asterillos Canarias on Monday 1st April at 4 p.m. and lasted one hour during which the participating women had the opportunity to exchange views of the role of women in the naval sector, the challenges and obstacles they face, or on the existing training needs, among other things.

The meeting was attended by 35 women from various naval companies, including Astican, Zamakona Yards, SACSA, Contratas Metalúrgicas, Rodritol, Delsan, ALG, Turnaval, Grosa, Carenados Canarios, Canary Rope, GCSB, Radoy Group, Oryx Ibérica.

Among the aspects commented on by the participants were need to promote at an early stage in schools and institutes the professional development opportunities offered by the marine sector for women and men alike, the need to develop policies that ensure equal pay for men and women and measure that make it easier for women in the sector to reconcile the needs of this work with their family lives.
