The Canary Islands Maritime Cluster, within the framework of the actions foreseen in the INTERREG-MAC 2014-2020 project: SMART BLUE (activity 2.2.1), and as part of the promotion actions of the Canary Islands Suppliers brand, participates in the BlueUP! day, organized by the Canary Islands Research, Innovation and Information Society Agency and the City Port Cohesion Factory, and sponsored by the Development Society and the Youth area of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Tenerife Ports and Tenerife Shipyards.

The conference took place the Youth House of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council on 5 April with the aim of bringing the blue economy closer to society and the youngest.

The organizer of the event stressed out “importance of such a project of the collaborative innovation of the knowledge economy, strongly linked to the development of the seas and the economic activity they generate”, in addition, appreciate the participation of the institutions and the great reception of the citizenship.

More than over 100 students from the various professional training centres and the University of Laguna attended the BlueUP! Day, framed within the BlueTalks, which are inspiring talks from experts in the sector, to learn about the great potential of the marine sector in the Canary Islands which is in continuous growth and presents numerous job opportunities for young people.

Among the guests of the inauguration counts José Manuel Bermúdez, mayor of Santa Cruz, Mario Suárez, director of strategic planning of Tenerife Shipyards, Verónica Meseguer, delegated councillor for Sports, Youth and Education of Santa Cruz and Manuel Jorge Pérez, general director of Vocational Training and Adult Education.

During the conference, the Maritime Cluster of the Canary Islands gave a presentation highlighting the cluster’s work in promoting the marine industry and the companies grouped under its international promotional brand Canary Islands Suppliers.
